Texas–Mexico Border Retail the Highlight of Conference

DALLAS—An inside look at current and future trends in cross-border retailing, including the impacts of peso swings and increased border security, is the focus of a January conference in San Antonio.

“Cross-Border Shopping Activity” will be Friday, January 13, 2006, at the Holiday Inn Select, 77 N. E. Loop 410, San Antonio.

The conference is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, San Antonio and El Paso Branches; the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Detroit Branch; and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Participants can register to attend at www.dallasfed.org.

Speakers will address a variety of topics such as the cross-border retail industry’s influence on the robust job market in South Texas and the movement of big U.S. retailers into Mexico.

Richard W. Fisher, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will present the keynote address.

Speakers also include Jeff Campbell of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; Greg Souquette, senior vice president, HEB Grocery; Roberto Coronado of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch; Thomas Fullerton of the University of Texas at El Paso; and several other experts in the field of cross-border retailing.
