Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
Mark Guzman graduated from Cornell University
in 1997 with a Ph.D. in economics. His primary fields were
macroeconomics and monetary economics. After graduating, he
taught for two years in the Boston area at Wellesley College
and Bentley College. He joined the Dallas Fed in August 1999.
Guzman's publications to date have focused
on the macroeconomic effects of both monetary and fiscal policy
in economies characterized by banking systems subject to binding
and nonbinding reserve requirements, asymmetric information
and liquidity shocks. His current research concentrates on
understanding the effect of different market structures in
the banking industry on economic growth. Additional work involves
examining the interrelationship between immigration border
enforcement and immigrant smugglers and how the two affect
economic well-being in the countries impacted by migration.
