Alan D. Viard is a senior economist
and research officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of
Dallas, where he conducts research in public finance
and macroeconomics, with a focus on tax and fiscal policy
and Social Security. During leaves of absence, Viard
served as a senior economist at the Council of Economic
Advisers from April 2003 to April 2004 and as a visiting
scholar in the Office of Tax Analysis in the U. S. Treasury
Department from January to July 2005.
Before joining the Dallas Fed,
Viard was an assistant professor of economics at Ohio
State University. He was also a staff economist at the
Joint Committee on Taxation of the U.S. Congress in
1992–93 and a visiting foreign scholar at Osaka
University in Japan in 1995. He has authored more than
20 articles in professional journals and Federal Reserve
publications.
Viard received a B.A. in economics
from Yale University in 1984 and a Ph.D. in economics
from Harvard University in 1990.
